Homemade Croutons

Homemade Croutons

My mother use to make these when I was younger.
I use to make them for a while and then stopped and
I don't know why I did. Last night my girls and I had
salad and we made them together.
They keep saying how good they were and my seven
year old wanted to bring some to summer school
for snack today.

Recipe:

Ingredients:
6 slices or bread of your choose - I use a butter top wheat this time
Butter or margarine of your choose
Garlic powder

Heat oven to 450 degrees.

1) Spread butter/margarine on both sides of bead.
2) Sprinkle garlic powder on both sides.
3) Slice bread up and spread on pan.

Cook for 12-15 mins depend on your oven. I like mine a little darker so I did the full 15 mins.

Belles Hamburger Buns

Belles Hamburger Buns

Belles Hamburger Buns

1 Cup Milk
1 Cup Water
2 TBLS Butter
1 TBLS White Sugar
1 1/2 tsp Salt
5 1/2 Cups All-purpose Flour
1 (.25oz) Envelope Active Dry Yeast
1 Egg Yolk
1 TBLS Water

Directions

1.  Combine the milk, 1 cup of water, butter, sugar and salt in a saucepan. Bring to a boil then remove from the heat and let stand until lukewarm. If the mixture is too hot, it will kill the yeast.

 2.   In a large bowl, stir together the flour and yeast. Pour in wet ingredients and stir until the dough starts to pull together. If you have a stand mixer, use the dough hook to mix for about 8 minutes. If not, knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes. Place the dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let stand until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

3.  Punch down the dough and divide into 12 portions They should be a little larger than a golf ball. Make tight balls out of the dough by pulling the dough tightly around and pinching it at the bottom. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. After the rolls sit for a minute and relax, flatten each ball with the palm of your hand until it is 3 to 4 inches wide. You may want to oil your hand first. Set rolls aside until they double in size, about 20 minutes.

4. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Mix together the egg yolk and 1 tablespoon of water in a cup or small bowl. Brush onto the tops of the rolls. Position 2 oven racks so they are not too close to the top or bottom of the oven.

5.Bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Remove the rolls from the oven and return them to different shelves so each one spends a little time on the top. Continue to bake for another 5 to 10 minutes, or until nicely browned on the top and bottom.

I got the recipe from allrecipes.com.
Here is the link to: Belles Hamburger Buns

My girls will say these are the best hamburgers ever. They also love that they get to help make them.

If you have any questions. Please feel free to ask. If you make them. I would love to hear what you think.

Remarkable Fudge

Remarkable Fudge

This is my and my family's favorite fudge. I got this recipe
from my Mom.

Remarkable Fudge

4  Cups sugar
2  5 1/3 ounce cans evaporated milk
1  Cup butter or margarine
1  12 - ounce package (2 cups) semisweet Chocolate pieces
1  7- ounce jar marshmallow creme
1  teaspoon vanilla

Butter the sides of heavy 3-quart saucepan. In it combine sugar, evaporated milk,
and butter or margarine. Cook and stir over medium heat till mixture comes to a
boiling. Cook to 236 degrees (soft-ball stage), about 12 mins, stirring freequently
(mixture should boil gently over entire surface). Remove from heat. Add remaining
ingredients; stir till combined adn chocolate is melted. Turn into a buttered 9x9x2-inch
or 13x9x9-inch pan. Score into squares while warm; cut when firm. If fudge is soft, chill.
Makes about 3 1/2 pounds.

This is how I open my evaporated milk cans.  My
girls always love to do this part.

I melt the butter first. Then once it is all melted. I add the
sugar and evaporated milk to it.

Once it comes to a boil I put the timer on if you don't have
a candy thermometer. They cam out to about the same.
I did have to this time do it a bit longer but since I had
the candy thermometer I went to what it says.
I have done it before with the timer and it turns out
just right.

The fun part of adding the chocolate and marshmallow
creme.

 Enjoy!!!!

Brownie waffles

Yesterday at my friends Bridal Shower. She got a waffle maker and we all
started to talk about recipes. Someone mentions brownies in the waffle.
I thought what a great fun idea to do with the kids.

Brownie waffles
I just used a box of brownies this time. Next time I want to
make homemade brownies.

My girls thought it was so fun and cool to make brownies in
the waffle maker. They asked if we could make them in the
morning for breakfast.

I thought we could even make some frosting and make
brownie waffle sandwiches.

I need to look around and see if there are some other kinds
of different recipes to use with waffle maker.

Braided Spaghetti Bread

On June 12 we tired this.

It was so yummy and heck
when my girls want seconds.
I know I hit it on the nose.
Can't wait to make this again.

You will need:
  • 1 Loaf Rhodes Bread Dough or 12 Rhodes Dinner Rolls, thawed to room temperature
  • 6 oz spaghetti, cooked
  • 1 cup thick spaghetti sauce
  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese, cut into 1/2 –inch cubes
  • 1 egg white
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Parsley flakes

Here is is with the bread dough, spaghetti noddles and sauce on top.

Add the cheese on top.

I cut about 1 1/2" apart on long sides of dough to about 1/2" of filling.
Then I folded the sides on like a braid.
Added on the rest and place in oven.

This is what mine looked like when it was all done.

Let me tell you it was so yummy. My hubby even enjoyed the left overs the
next night at work.

Again here is the link to this amazing recipe: Braided Spaghetti Bread

Enjoy!!!!!!
